Arterial wall vibration distal to stenoses in isolated arteries of dog and man.

چکیده
It has been suggested that poststenotic weakening of arterial walls is caused by arterial wall vibration and structural fatigue initiated by pressure disturbances in turbulent blood flow. We examined the frequency spectra of wall vibration downstream from experimental arterial stenoses and compared them with the natural resonant vibration characteristics of the artery walls. Spectra of arterial wall displacement of isolated perfused dog and human arteries were measured with a noncontacting capacitance transducer during conditions of fluid flow through the artery; resonant vibration characteristics were determined during pure sine and random sound stimulation of the artery walls in the absence of flow. It is concluded that fluid flow through isolated arteries with an experimental stenosis excites the artery wall to vibrate over a wide range of frequencies within which are discrete frequencies that coincide with the resonant frequencies of the artery wall. Effects of surrounding tissue on the sound spectrum of arterial bruits in vivo.
Turbulent flow distal to arterial stenoses producers bruits with a characteristic sound spectrum, analysis of which has permitted accurate non-invasive assessment of the residual lumen diameter of the stenosis in the case of the human carotid artery. In contrast, investigators working with in vitro elastic models of arteries or with excised vessels have reported finding mainly resonant spectra ...
متن کاملPresentation of a Non-invasive Method of Estimating Arterial Stiffness by Modeling Blood Flow and Arterial Wall Based on the Determination of Elastic Module of Arterial Wall
Introduction: Arterial stiffness is an important predictor of cardiovascular risk. Several indices have been introduced to estimate the arterial stiffness based on the changes in the brachial blood pressure. Since the substitution of the blood pressure changes in the central arteries such as carotid with the blood pressure changes in the brachial results in error in the blood...
متن کاملDoppler vibrometry: assessment of arterial stenosis by using perivascular tissue vibrations without lumen visualization.
PURPOSE To correlate vibration frequency and duration at Doppler vibrometry with stenosis severity determined at catheter angiography. MATERIALS AND METHODS Sixteen patients (eight women) scheduled to undergo abdominal or pelvic angiography were recruited after providing informed consent. An ultrasonography (US) scanner was customized to acquire raw echo data before conventional Doppler proce...
متن کاملKinematics parameter extraction of longitudinal movement of common carotid arterial wall in healthy and atherosclerotic subjects based on consecutive ultrasonic image processing
Introduction:In this study, a non-invasive method based on consecutive ultrasonic image processing is introduced to assess time rate changes of the carotid artery wall displacement, velocity and acceleration in the longitudinal direction. The application of these parameters to discriminate healthy and atherosclerotic arteries was evaluated. Methods:Longitudinal displacement rate of common ...
متن کاملA Survey Of Variation in Obturator Arteries
The knowledge of surgeon from anatomical variation can inhance the recovery process of patients. Vascular variation and their accidental cutting during surgical procedure can produce some problems specially in arterial variation. So the anatomical and surgical department must not neglect to prapere some program in order to learn these variations to the students. The antero-inferior abdominal wa...
